Buick Rendezvous Steering Knuckle Parts and Q&A

  • Q: How to replace the steering knuckle in an all-wheel-drive on Buick Rendezvous?
    A:
The process of replacing a Steering Knuckle in an all-wheel-drive vehicle starts by lifting and supporting the vehicle followed by wheel and wheel bearing/hub removal. Start by positioning a utility stand under the lower Control Arm to maintain support and disconnect the Tie Rod from the knuckle and the optional height sensor link from the lower Control Arm when needed. Start by separating the upper Control Arm from the knuckle before using a Ball Joint/stud separator (J 41820) to break the Ball Joint connection from the knuckle. The Ball Joint/stud separator (J 41820) needs removal to disconnect the Ball Joint from knuckle while removing the knuckle from the vehicle before finally taking off the wheel speed sensor connector bracket. Begin by mounting the wheel speed sensor connector bracket onto the knuckle followed by bracket bolt installation along with nut tightening to 12 nm (106 inch lbs.). Place the knuckle into its position on the vehicle before installing the Ball Joint to knuckle nut at 35 nm (26 ft. Lbs.) with an additional 130° torque. The upper Control Arm receives attachment to the knuckle while the technician torques the upper Control Arm nut to 85 nm (63 ft. Lbs.). Optional connection of the height sensor link to the lower Control Arm follows. Conclusion of the Tie Rod to knuckle starts by tightening the Tie Rod nut to 80 nm (59 ft. Lbs.). Next, remove the utility stand from the lower Control Arm after which you can install the wheel bearing/hub followed by the rear wheel before lowering the vehicle.
