2010 GMC Canyon Oil Filter Parts and Q&A
Q: How to replace the engine oil and oil filter on 2010 GMC Canyon?
A: You should start the procedure by taking off the oil fill cap while securely positioning the vehicle. First wipe away all traces of dirt from around the Drain Plug of the Oil Pan then set a proper drain pan beneath it. Begin by removing the Oil Pan Drain Plug and letting the entire oil drain out before cleaning the plug. Replace the Drain Plug if necessary and check the sealing surface for cleanliness before deciding whether to switch to a new Oil Pan. Clean the Drain Plug opening and properly tighten the Drain Plug until it reaches a secure position. Insert a container beneath the engine Oil Filter drain deflector and place a drain pan under the Oil Filter before removing it. Check if the Oil Filter gasket remains with the old filter. The adapter gasket should be discarded if it cannot be found on the filter. Add new engine oil to the new Oil Filter gasket before you install the new Oil Filter. Tighten the filter to 10 nm (89 lb in) and continue tightening for an additional 150 degrees. Dry the Oil Filter drain deflector before applying force of 26 nm (19 lb ft) to tighten the Oil Pan Drain Plug while removing the drain pan placed under the vehicle. Add new engine oil according to fluid and lubricant specifications along with approximate capacities while working with the lowered vehicle. Turn on the engine to check for leaks before shutting it off again to allow oil to flow back into the pan during a few minutes. First clean the end of the tube using a paper towel before reinstalling the oil level indicator so that it reaches the top edge of the tube. For checking oil level remove the indicator twice while maintaining tip position down. Perform necessary adjustments by adding or draining oil. Follow up the procedure by confirming the engine has leaks then fasten the oil fill cap.
