2010 GMC Acadia Tie Rod Parts and Q&A

  • Q: How to replace the steering linkage outer tie rod on 2010 GMC Acadia?
A: The steering linkage outer Tie Rod replacement starts with removing both front tire and wheel assembly components. The first task is to take off the steering linkage outer Tie Rod nut then loosen the steering linkage inner Tie Rod nut. The j-24319-b (Steering Linkage and Tie Rod Puller) for buick, gmc, and chevrolet and the sa91100c (Tie Rod Separator) for saturn can replace pickle fork and wedge type tools in disassembling the ball stud to prevent damage to the seal or bushing. The technician will detach the outer Tie Rod from the inner Tie Rod while recording the total rotations for later reinstall. Installation of the new outer Tie Rod will succeed if the measured rotation count during removal is used without tightening the inner Tie Rod nut. The outer Tie Rod needs to connect to the Steering Knuckle but quality check the outer Tie Rod nut and stud threads to assess their corrosion level; change any rusted components. After installing the outer Tie Rod nut, apply torque to the stud until it achieves 2 nm (18 lb in) of torque before it reaches its seating point. Then check if the nut passes this requirement, consider replacing it with a new one. Tighten the outer Tie Rod nut to 30 nm (22 lb ft) before continuing to torque it by an additional 120 degrees. Make sure 2.5 to 4.5 threads extend from the nut nylon. After attaching the front wheel and tire put on the toe measurement then adjust this front steering element before tightening the inner Tie Rod nut to 75 nm (55 lb ft).
