  • Q: How to replace the shift cable for the M86 manual transmission on 2010 Chevrolet HHR?
A: The first step for m86 manual transmission Shift Cable replacement requires users to activate the parking brake before moving the transmission into the neutral (N) position. Disassemble the console while picking up the cable retainers before breaking the cable ends free from the shift control assembly and transmission shift levers for proper reassembly purposes. You must first disconnect the Shift Cable from the transmission cable bracket before raising and supporting the vehicle. The Shift Cable attachment nut must be unfastened from the underbody before lowering the vehicle. Climb behind the left instrument panel closeout before moving the driver-side front carpet. Clipping the grommet away from the Floor Pan makes it possible to pull the cable through the driver's floor opening for extraction. The cable installation begins with passing the assembly through the driver's floor entry while setting the grommet at floor level. Reinstall the driver's side front carpet after putting back the left instrument panel closeout panel and complete the process by raising the vehicle. Lower the vehicle and install the Shift Cable attachment nut to the underbody while tightening it to 10 nm (89 lb in). The shift cables should be installed on the transmission cable bracket then the Shift Cable ends need to be connected with transmission shift levers according to disassembly notes and the Shift Cable needs to be connected with the shift control assembly. Push the shifter neutral lock clip followed by shifting the shifter to place the lock clip in the middle while confirming the transmission is in neutral position. After that apply pressure on the locking tabs before pulling the shifter neutral lock clip back into its original place. Finally, install the console.
