- Q: How to replace the control arm bushings in the rear suspension on 2010 Chevrolet Cobalt?A: To replace the control arm bushings in the rear suspension, first, lift and up the vehicle, then pull off the rear tire and wheel assembly and the rear coil spring. Remove the lower rear shock bolts, remove rear park brake cables from the rear axle mounting brackets. Next, eliminate the rear suspension trailing arm bracket to body bolts, rear axle bracket to bushing through bolts and nuts and rear suspension Control Arm Bracket support. To remove rear suspension insulators from the rear axle, use j-44570-a (Bushing Remover/Installer Kit). For installation, locate the new insulators, which should have a rubber end toward the inboard and the direction of the large notch of the insulator should be aligned with the size of the rear axle, Wheel Bearing centers. Put on the rear suspension insulator with the help of the j-44570-a (Bushing Remover/Installer Kit), then, loosely install the rear suspension Control Arm Bracket support to the rear axle trailing arms. Hand tighten the trailing arm bracket bolts, and axle bracket to body bolts just enough so that they would be flush with the body. Rise the rear axle assembly to the d height specifications; tighten the rear suspension Control Arm Bracket to the bushing through bolts to 90 nm (66 lb ft) plus 60. On both the rear suspension Control Arm Bracket supports, align the two rear suspension Control Arm Bracket, uses 12 mm diameter pins, followed by tightening the trailing arm bracket mounting bolt to body bolts 90nm (66 lb ft) plus 45 degrees. Replace the rear park brake cables to rear axle mounting brackets, replace the rear Coil Springs and then rear tire and wheel assembly. Lastly, take out supports and lower the vehicle.
