- Q: How to replace the alternator (LF1/LLT) on 2010 Cadillac CTS?A: The negative Battery Cable requires disconnection before performing generator (LF1/LLT) replacement. First detach the generator Drive Belt and subsequently lift and support the vehicle. Remove the front air deflector afterward disconnect the electrical connector that connects to the generator. You need to transfer the protective boot away from the generator output bat terminal location to work on it. Then unfasten the generator output bat terminal nut and remove the positive battery lead from the generator. Lower the vehicle and remove the lower bolts of the generator before using the torque wrench to eliminate the upper bolt to extract the generator from the engine. Installation requires placing the generator back onto the engine followed by a 50 nm (37 lb ft) torque on the generator upper bolt. After lifting the vehicle for support reinstall the generator lower bolts while torquing them to 50 nm (37 lb ft). Reinstall the bat terminal boot while securing the generator's positive lead and bat terminal with a nut tightened to 13 nm (115 lb in). Begin by connecting the electrical connector to the generator but before moving on reinstall the front air deflector and lower the vehicle while also installing the Drive Belt to the generator. As the last step replace the battery negative cable.
