2009 GMC Sierra 1500 Camshaft Position Sensor Parts and Q&A

  • Q: How to replace the Camshaft Position Sensor (except RPOs LY2, LY5, LH6, and LMG) on 2009 GMC Sierra 1500?
A: Cleaning the vicinity where the Camshaft Position Sensor (except RPOs LY2, LY5, LH6, and LMG) exists should be the first step before sensor replacement to stop debris from reaching the engine. First raise the vehicle then support it before unconnecting the engine wiring harness electrical connector which is attached to the CMP sensor wire harness. Disconnect the CMP sensor wire harness by removing three bolts (738) on the sensor and disconnecting wiring connectors from both CMP sensor and CMP actuator magnet. Start by disassembling the CMP sensor wire harness 737 and then proceed to detach the CMP sensor 703 along with seal O-ring (704). The CMP sensor O-ring must be tested for damage before a lubricated installation of the sensor. The CMP sensor (703) must be installed onto the front cover and followed by securing the CMP sensor wire harness (737) which should have its electrical connectors attached to the CMP sensor and the CMP actuator magnet. Torque the CMP sensor wire harness bolts (738) to 12 Nm while performing a 106 lb in Torque specification. Lower down your vehicle and connect the engine wiring harness electrical connector to the CMP sensor wire harness.
