To replace the rear wheel drive shaft outer joint boot, you need to ensure that the wheel drive shaft is out of the vehicle. Place a shop towel on the Axle Shaft and clamp the wheel drive shaft horizontally in a bench vise while discarding the old retaining clamps. Remove the retaining clamps from outer boot using side cutter and thrown away and remove the outer boot from c.v joins housing and clean grease from c.v joint inner race, cage, and balls. To undo the outer CV Joint off the Axle Shaft, the outer joint housing should be held horizontally, and then a wood block placed between the seal and the joint, after which the joint is to be hammered off the wheel drive shaft, using brass drift if required. Remove the Axle Shaft, and discard the retaining ring and the boot. Even after removing the wheel drive shaft from the vise, put a shop towel around the joint outer race splined shaft and fix the outer race vertically to a bench vise. Tap the inner cage of the wheel drive shaft joints gently with a brass drift and hammer to knock off the first ball and repeat until all the balls are out. Clean the inner race, out race, cage, and balls along with exposed end of Axle Shaft with solvent leaves to air dry. In case if any inner parts are defect, replace wheel drive shaft. To assemble, place the cage with its larger radius corners on top, slide the inner race into the cage but make sure that grooved surface is on top, align the inner race ball tracks with the cage windows. Take a shop towel and wrap this around the joint outer race splined shaft then rest the outer race vertically in a bench vise. Adjust the cage and inner race to 90 degrees in relation to the outer race, with the inner race ring groove going downward, and insert the balls one after another as you press down the cage to reach the ball tracks. When you remove just about 60 percent of the grease from the service kit, get the outer joint out of the vise and cover the Axle Shaft with a shop towel, clamp the wheel drive shaft horizontally into a bench vise. Replace the old small seal retaining clamp and seal at the Axle Shaft with a new one and then place a new retaining ring. Deploy the inner race splines onto the Axle Shaft splines, compress the Axle Shaft retaining ring, and push the outer joint onto the shaft until fully seated by using a wood block with a hammer. Apply the remaining grease in the seal, place the small seal retaining clamp into the boot groove and fix the boot into appropriate shape discarding any damaged piece. Crimp j 42572 small seal retaining clamp until 1 mm gap and attach the large seal retaining clamp on the seal and joint outer race so as seal is not deformed. Crimp the large seal retaining clamp with j 42572 until a 1 mm of crimp remains, resisting a minimum of 2 seconds. Finally, take a close look at the outer part of the joint to ensure that it rotates smoothly by rolling the wheel drive shaft several times before reinstalling.
