2008 GMC Canyon Thermostat Parts and Q&A

  • Q: How to replace the engine coolant thermostat on LLV - 2.9L and LLR - 3.7L engines on 2008 GMC Canyon?
A: The replacement of the engine coolant Thermostat requires draining the cooling system when working on llv - 2.9l and llr - 3.7l engines. Drivers should elevate their vehicle enough for wheelhouse access to the Thermostat Housing before they extract the left wheelhouse panel. Connect the hose clamp pliers (J 38185) to separate the radiator inlet hose from its position on the Thermostat Housing. Begin by unlatching the Thermostat Housing bolts then detach the housing from the front of the engine block. Both of the Thermostat Housing and the engine block's sealing surface require cleaning before an inspection. When installing the Thermostat Housing it should be placed onto the engine block followed by Thermostat Housing bolt tightening at 10 n.m (89 lb in). The radiator inlet hose gets attached to the Thermostat Housing using hose clamp pliers (J 38185) before replacing the left wheelhouse liner while lowering the vehicle. To finish the installation fill the cooling system while checking all components for leakage shortly after the engine starts.
