2008 Chevrolet Corvette Evaporator Parts and Q&A

  • Q: How to replace the air conditioning evaporator core on 2008 Chevrolet Corvette?
A: The first step to swap an air conditioning Evaporator core requires ownership of the halogen leak detector (J 39400-A) tool set. Start the replacement process by taking out the hvac module followed by disposal of the hvac module assembly foam seal. The thermal expansion valve (TXV) installation bolts require removal so the txv can be extracted from the Evaporator core while discarding sealing washers. Disconnect electrical connectors of the discharge temperature management sensor from the hvac module. Also remove the hvac module wiring harness retainer pin from the module. Shift the wiring harness to a separate position after moving away the Heater Core cover wire harness retainers. Begin by disassembling the heater cover screws from the hvac module and extracting both the heater cover together with the Heater Core. The upper hvac case can be separate from the lower case by unscrewing retaining screws so you can easily remove the Evaporator core. When installing an entirely new Evaporator core you must add the recommended volume of polyalkylene glycol (PAG) oil directly to it before ensuring the side seal fits inside each corner. The Evaporator core installation process requires new side seals and upper seals together with new lower seals to be applied before the core returns to its place in the hvac module. Fasten the hvac module upper case to the lower case by screwing retaining screws to 1.6 n.m (14 lb in). The installation of new foam seal requires a sequential approach followed by Heater Core and heater cover assembly and screw installation at equal torque. The wiring harness of the hvac runs to the Heater Core retention points before connecting to them followed by attachment of both the hvac harness retainer and dtm sensor electrical connectors. After installing the new sealing washers to the Evaporator core you must secure the txv along with its mounting bolts that require 7 n.m (62 lb in) torque when fastening before setting the hvac module back in place.
