2007 Chevrolet Equinox Intake Manifold Parts and Q&A

  • Q: How to replace the lower intake manifold on 2007 Chevrolet Equinox?
A: The procedure begins with draining the cooling system and requires the upper Intake Manifold together with heater inlet pipe removal before terminating connection between the radiator inlet hose and Thermostat Housing. First disconnect the Fuel Rail assembly then remove all lower Intake Manifold bolts so you can detach the lower Intake Manifold from your engine. When installing a fresh lower Intake Manifold you should begin by taking away both the Thermostat and housing along with the rocker arms and push rods as well as the lower Intake Manifold gaskets. Installing new lower Intake Manifold gaskets requires gasket mating surfaces free of oil and foreign material while installing rtv sealer is prohibited on engine block surfaces and under the lower Intake Manifold gaskets. After installing the lower Intake Manifold gaskets and rocker arms with push rods and lower Intake Manifold seals apply a small drop of rtv sealer (8-10 mm or 0.31-0.39 in) before fastening the lower Intake Manifold to the engine. The best gasket performance requires new threaded fasteners with thread locking material either inside a patch or chemically applied to existing fasteners. Proper torque distribution requires the completion of center bolt torquing before moving onto the diagonal bolts. Lower Intake Manifold bolts at positions and must receive specific torque measurements with a crows foot type wrench. Begin bolt tightening of the lower Intake Manifold with 13 n.m (115 lb in) on the first pass then move to 20 n.m (15 lb ft) for bolts (1, 2, 3, 4) before finishing with 25 n.m (18 lb ft) for bolts (5, 6, 7, 8). The cooling system needs to be filled after you replace the Fuel Rail assembly along with attaching the radiator inlet hose to the Thermostat Housing and installing both the heater inlet pipe and upper Intake Manifold.
