  • Q: How to replace the Rack and Pinion on a right-hand drive on 2007 Cadillac SRX?
A: To replace the steering gear on the right hand drive vehicle, first, install the Steering Column anti-rotation pin (J 42640) to the Steering Column. Take out the front tires and wheels, together with the right front wheelhouse liner and the front air deflector. Put drain pans under the vehicle if necessary. Shut off the engine and make specific to ensure the wheels are straight ahead, the Steering Column stays in lock before removing the Steering Column or the intermediate shaft to prevent damage to the Rack And Pinion or loss of steering control. Lower the intermediate shaft lower pinch bolt; separate intermediate shaft from power steering rack by removing variable effort steering harness connector. Remove the outer tie rod from the steering knuckles and you get rid of the power steering hoses from retaining bolt of the power steering rack by disconnecting the power steering hoses from the power steering rack. Deroute the right Brake Line from the brake hose and plug it, placing it to the side. If it has awd, support the bottom of the front diff housing with an appropriate jack, loosen the right engine mount nut and raise the diff housing to clear the steering rack bolt. Unfasten the power steering rack mounting bolts and the right rearward lower Control Arm by disconnecting the frame mounting nut and bolt and remove the power steering rack via the right wheel opening. To install, reverse the removal steps, with installation of the power steering rack through the right wheel opening subsequently the right rearward lower Control Arm to frame mounting bolt and with the nut then the retaining bolts for the power steering rack tightened to 180 n.m (133 lb ft). If awd is fitted, lower the differential housing, tighten the right lower engine mount to the frame nut to 80 n.m (59 lb ft), and remove the support from the bottom of the differential housing. Put the right Brake Line to the brake hose and tighten it to 27 n.m (20 lb in), then put the power steering hoses to the power steering rack and the power steering hoses to the power steering rack retaining bolt and tighten the bolt to 23 n.m (17 lb in). Put the outer tie rod to the steering knuckles, attach the variable effort steering harness connector and attach the lower intermediate shaft to the power steering rack. Mount the lower intermediate shaft lower pinch bolt tightening it to 50 n.m (37 lb ft). Clean off all redundant liquid off the vehicle and take off the drain pans and install the front air deflector, the proper front wheelhouse liner, and the wheels and tires. Lastly, undo the Steering Column anti-rotation pin (J 42640) from the Steering Column, bleed the power steering system, and the hydraulic brake system, and adjust the front toe.
