2006 Chevrolet SSR Timing Chain Parts and Q&A

  • Q: How to replace the timing chain and sprockets on 2006 Chevrolet SSR?
A: To replace the Timing Chain as well as the sprockets, they must first be healed of the Oil Pump and have the Crankshaft rotated until the timing marks found at the Crankshaft and the camshaft sprockets are aligned whereas they must not rotate the Crankshaft assembly after the Timing Chain has been removed to prevent further damage to the piston assemblies or valves. Then, take away the camshaft sprocket bolts, camshaft sprocket and Timing Chain. Remove the Crankshaft puller using the timberland j 8433 two jaw puller (J 8433), j 41816-2 Crankshaft end protector (J 41816-2), and j 41558 Crankshaft sprocket remover (J 41558), and if necessary remove the Crankshaft sprocket key. Check the Timing Chain and the sprockets. You need to unhook them, clean, and install them again properly. For installation, insert the key into the Crankshaft keyway and drive into place until the ends are seated. Mount the Crankshaft sprocket on the front of the Crankshaft, with crayksaft key matched to the keyway in the sprocket, and using the j 41665 Crankshaft balancer and sprocket installer, j 41665, to seat the sprocket fully against the Crankshaft flange. Swivel the crank shaft sprocket so that the alignment mark is at 12 o clock position ensuring that when the sprocket locating pin of the camshaft sprocket alligns with the camshaft sprocket pin alignment hole this will also ensure that the teeth of the sprocket's and Timing Chain hook up correctly. Line up the camshaft and the Crankshaft sprocket marks, then install the camshaft sprocket and the Timing Chain and line it up if needed with the timing marks. Finally, install camshaft sprocket bolts with 35 nm (26 ft. Lbs) and install Oil Pump.
