2006 Chevrolet Cobalt Valve Stem Oil Seal Parts and Q&A

  • Q: What tools are required to service and repair the valve guide seal, replace the valve stem oil seal, and valve spring on 2006 Chevrolet Cobalt?
A: Our procedure needs the valve spring compressor item j 43649 and the Valve Stem Oil Seal remover item j 36017 to perform Valve Stem Oil Seal and valve spring work. Start the job by taking out both Camshaft components and Camshaft roller followers. Add the front section of valve spring compressor j 43649 to the second Camshaft cover bolt hole before attaching the remaining parts to the cylinder head. Install an Air Hose adapter into the Spark Plug port and afterward attach an Air Hose to it before pushing 690 kpa (100 psi) compressed air into the cylinder. Pressurize the cylinder when installing the valve spring compressor j 43649 to compress the valve spring. Later remove valve spring keepers, valve spring retainer, and valve spring. To remove the valve seal you need to use Valve Stem Oil Seal remover tool j 36017. Insert the new valve seal onto the valve guide using Valve Stem Oil Seal remover tool j 36017 until it sits properly. Place the valve spring on the valve and position the valve spring retainer. Let the valve spring compressor work (J 43649) to compress the valve spring and set the valve spring keepers. Unplug the Air Hose connection from the adapter and take out the adapter from the Spark Plug hole. Set the spark plugs in their positions before replacing both the Camshaft roller followers and the Camshaft.
