  • Q: How to replace the RH secondary camshaft timing chain on 2006 Cadillac STS?
    A: Starting the right Timing Chain replacement requires initial removal of the Oil Pump. The crankshaft socket tool j 39946 should be used to turn the crankshaft until the primary timing gear marks line up. Before moving forward, disconnect the right Camshaft position actuator housing while leaving both solenoids intact. Mount the Camshaft holding tool (EN 46328) to the right camshafts of bank 1. Begin by easing off and removing the right Timing Chain Tensioner bolts followed by the tensioner itself. A hex cast on the Camshaft requires an open-end wrench to stop rotation during bank 1 (right) exhaust Camshaft position oil control valve removal. Tear the right exhaust Camshaft position actuator off its Camshaft installation while extracting the Timing Chain from its actuator teeth. Perform the same steps on both components of the bank 1 (right) intake Camshaft position oil control valve and actuator. Take out the right Timing Chain from the engine then clean and inspect all timing drive components from the Camshaft. Install the Timing Chain by placing its three black links in exact position to the timing marks found on the bank 1 exhaust and intake actuators as well as the intermediate sprocket. Secure the actuators with loose oil control valve installation using an open-end wrench to avoid Camshaft rotation while torquing them to 120 nm (89 ft. Lbs.). To finish the installation process, place the right Timing Chain Tensioner before removing the Camshaft holding tool (EN 46328) and reinstalling the right Camshaft position actuator housing and finally installing the Oil Pump.
