The replacement process of the heated oxygen sensor (HO2S) at Position 1 begins with acquiring the needed tool which is a Heated Oxygen Sensor Wrench (J 39194-B). First remove the intake manifold cover followed by removing the connector position assurance retainer and disconnect the engine harness electrical connector from the HO2S. You should remove the HO2S electrical connector clip from its position on the ignition coil bracket. You must use a Heated Oxygen Sensor Wrench (J 39194-B) to take out the HO2S but keep the pigtail connected with the permanent attachment and the connector safe. The threads of new or serviced HO2S should receive an anti-seize compound GM P/N 12377953 or equivalent when returning to use the original sensor. Follow the instructions to fasten the HO2S with a Heated Oxygen Sensor Wrench (J 39194-B) at 41 N.m (30 lb ft). Installation ends by reconnecting the engine harness electrical connector to the HO2S then installing the CPA retainer and attaching the HO2S electrical connector clip to the ignition coil bracket followed by the intake manifold cover.
