- Q: How to replace the positive battery cable on 2006 Buick Rendezvous?A: The battery replacement process begins with disconnecting the negative cable then twisting loose the positive cable bolt on the battery following cable removal from the terminal. Begin by removing the junction block cover then the positive Battery Cable to junction block nut before taking away the terminal from the junction block. First remove the generator terminal nut and next disconnect the terminal from the generator. When disconnecting the negative Battery Cable you must remove its ground bolt from the radiator support before separating it from the fog lamp harness ground. The vehicle needs support at a raised height so technicians can take out the lower radiator baffle and Battery Cable from its clips attached to side rail and lower radiator support. Working on the Starter component requires unfastening the Starter solenoid nut and positive Battery Cable terminal before proceeding with removing the negative Battery Cable nut and terminal from transaxle stud and stud respectively. First lower the vehicle while removing the Battery Cable assembly and placing it on the workbench. Open the conduit after cutting off the cable conduit tape and remove the positive Battery Cable from inside. The first step for installation requires fastening the positive Battery Cable to the conduit then taping it before attaching the Battery Cable assembly to the vehicle. Support the vehicle again while installing the negative Battery Cable terminal onto the transaxle stud and secure the nut to 25 n.m (18 lb ft). Screw the positive Battery Cable terminal to the Starter while also screwing the Starter solenoid "bat" nut until it tightens to 13 n.m (115 lb in). Reinstall the Battery Cable at its designated clips starting one-by-one from the side rail to the lower radiator support before reaching the lower radiator baffle. Position the negative Battery Cable ground on top of the fog lamp harness ground before installing the ground bolt to the radiator support and tightening it to 5 n.m (44 lb in). The positive Battery Cable terminal should be installed onto the generator body before the terminal nut gets tightened to 20 n.m (15 lb ft) which is followed by positioning the terminal boot at the generator. After attaching the positive Battery Cable terminal to the junction block install a junction block cover followed by tightening the junction block nut to 10 n.m (89 lb in). Complete the process by installing the positive Battery Cable to the battery then securing its bolt with a torque of 16 n.m and connecting the negative Battery Cable.
