How to replace the thermostat (LX9) on 2005 Chevrolet Malibu?

To replace the Thermostat (LX9), start removing the air cleaner intake duct and partially drain the cooling system. Put the hose clamp pliers (J 38185) with a small adjustment of the hose clamp to take it off from the water outlet housing, then pull to remove the radiator inlet hose from the water outlet housing. Then, take off water outlet housing bolts as well as its housing, then the Thermostat. Clean and inspect the gasket mating surfaces of the water outlet housing before installing new Thermostat. Rerunning the water outlet housing, making sure the bolts are tightened to 25 nm (18 ft. Lbs.), and connect the radiator inlet hose to the water outlet housing. Use the hose clamp pliers (J 38185) once again to reposition and secure the hose clamp to water outlet housing followed by re-securing the air cleaner intake duct. Finally, fill the cooling system.
