  • Q: How to replace the steering knuckle on 2005 Cadillac SRX?
    A: Steering Knuckle replacement differs in two steps beginning with vehicle elevation and support and continuing with wheel rim retention followed by wheel steering unit removal. The universal steering linkage puller (J 24319-B) assists with tie rod disconnect from the Steering Knuckle while you remove the outer tie rod to Steering Knuckle retaining nut. After removing the brake hose bracket to Steering Knuckle retaining bolts you should remove the upper control arm ball stud to Steering Knuckle retaining nut before finalizing with the upper control arm ball stud separation from the Steering Knuckle. The ball joint remover (J 43631) disconnects the lower control arm ball stud and the Steering Knuckle before final removal of the Steering Knuckle. During installation secure the Steering Knuckle to the lower control arm ball stud before installing a new lower control arm ball stud retaining nut which should be tightened first to 20 nm (15 ft. Lbs.) and then to an additional 210 degrees. Install the upper control arm ball stud onto the Steering Knuckle with a new retaining nut preceding a 20 nm (15 ft. Lbs.) torque then an additional 210 degrees of nut rotation. Secure the brake hose bracket by installing bolts that retain the Steering Knuckle before you attach the outer tie rod to the Steering Knuckle and finally tighten the outer tie rod retaining nut to 70 nm (52 ft. Lbs.). Afterward install the wheel bearing/hub followed by the tire and wheel before lowering the vehicle.
