  A: The sir system must be disabled before replacing the Steering Angle Sensor and Steering Shaft lower bearing. After vehicle turn signal switch housing removal and Steering Column extraction, remove the tilt spring. The pivot pin remover (J 21854-01) helps extract 2 pivot pins from the Steering Column support assembly. Next, remove the boot seal. The absence of a sensor requires removal of the Steering Shaft seal and a sensor retainer. The sensor presence requires removal of both the sensor locator and the sensor assembly. Intake procedures begin with installing the Steering Shaft seal and sensor retainer when the sensor is absent. For sensor installation position the assembly at the 9 o'clock mark and mount the sensor locator and boot seal afterward. First install the Steering Shaft assembly into the Steering Column tilt head assembly and afterward assemble the tilt head assembly with the Steering Shaft into the Steering Column jacket assembly. The support assembly for the Steering Column requires replacement after 3 stake operations while pivot pins need to be lubricated with gm p/n 12346293 (Canadian P/N 992723). Install each pivot pin onto the Steering Column support assembly while making stake points at 3 locations.
