2005 Buick Century Battery Cable Parts and Q&A

  • Q: How to replace the negative battery cable on 2005 Buick Century?
A: To replace the battery negative cable, one is required to disconnect the negative battery cable and then the positive battery cable from battery. Unscrew the ground wire bolt at the frame, as well as the remote positive stud cover and the positive battery cable junction block lead. Next, remove the positive battery cable from the bussed electrical center (BEC), and then take the BEC from the strut tower. Unclip and remove the positive battery cable harness from the BEC, and then lift and hold the vehicle. Unbolt the front lower air deflector, remove the positive battery cable from the starter motor BAT terminal, the transaxle stud nut, and finally ground cable from the transaxle stud. Unclip and pull off the battery cable harness from retainers and remove battery cable harness from the vehicle. Lastly, rotate the negative battery cable out from the wiring harness conduit. For installation, begin by inserting the negative cable of the battery into the wiring harness conduit and install the cable harness of the battery to the automotive and lock it up to the retainers. Mount the magneto to the frame-to-pulley pipe on the rear of the transaxle, and secure the stud nut to the transaxle stud with a 30 N.m (22 lb ft) torque measurement. Then, connect the positive battery cable to the starter motor BAT terminal and tighten the starter solenoid BAT terminal nut to a torque sequence of 9.5 N.m (84 lb in). Replace the front lower air deflector and reattach the positive battery cable harness to the BEC, as well as the BEC to the strut tower. Connect the positive battery cable to the BEC and secure the junction block lead nut to a torque rating of 10 N.m (89 lb in). Replace the remote positive stud cover and install the ground wire down to the frame, then tighten the bolt to 10 N.m (89 lb in). Lastly, attach the positive battery cable connecting to the battery and tighten the bolt to a span of 15 N.m (11 lb ft) before the connecting the negative battery cable.
