2004 Chevrolet Impala Oxygen Sensor Parts and Q&A

  • Q: How to replace the Heated Oxygen Sensor (HO2S) on 2004 Chevrolet Impala?
A: A heated Oxygen Sensor (HO2S) replacement begins with obtaining these essential tools: an Oxygen Sensor wrench (J 39194). Handle the ho2s sensor with great care while keeping the permanently attached pigtail and connector protected to maintain proper sensor functionality. Oxygen Sensor wrench (J 39194). Take proper precautions when handling ho2s because damage to its pigtail or connector will lead to sensor performance decline. Start by removing the sight shield from the fuel injector then remove the ho2s electrical cpa retainer before disconnecting the ho2s wiring harness connector from the electrical connector of the ho2s. Detach the ho2s electrical connector from its position on the fuel injector sight shield bracket. Engine temps should exceed 48°c (120°F) while performing this task because operating at lower temperatures can cause damage to Exhaust Manifold or pipe threads and make the process more difficult. You should use an Oxygen Sensor wrench (J 39194) to uninstall the ho2s. When installing the sensor apply a special anti-seize compound to the threads of new or reused components when necessary using p/n 12377953 or equivalent class of compounds. Use the Oxygen Sensor wrench (J 39194) to install the rear Oxygen Sensor into the right Exhaust Manifold with 41 n.m (30 lb ft) torque setting. After connecting the ho2s electrical connector to the wiring harness connector, secure the ho2s electrical connector to the fuel injector sight shield bracket before installing the ho2s electrical cpa retainer and putting the fuel injector sight shield back in place.
