2004 Chevrolet Impala Knock Sensor Parts and Q&A

  • Q: How to replace the Knock Sensor (KS) 2 on 2004 Chevrolet Impala?
A: Before replacing the Knock Sensor (KS) 2, first lift and suspend up the vehicle. Drain the cooling system to avoid scalds from the hot engine coolant that may still be in the engine water jacket. Remove the two bolts from the knock sensor heat shield, then the release the electrical connector from the knock sensor and remove the sensor itself. To install, do not apply thread sealant to the sensor as it is factory precoated and extra sealant can degrade detonation detection capabilities. Replace the new knock sensor and torque it down to 19 N.m (14 lb ft). Replace the heat shield and fasten the bolts with the wrench to 60 N.m (44 lb ft) and reconnect the electrical connector. Lastly, drop the vehicle and top up the cooling system.
