  • Q: How to replace the front brake line on 2004 Cadillac XLR?
    A: First lift and support the vehicle then remove the tire and wheel assembly in order to replace the front brake hose. Clean the brake hose and brake pipe fitting of any dirt, and then fit a rubber cap or plug to the open end of the brake pipe fitting that is exposed to protect the brake pipe from loss and contamination of the brake fluid. Remove the brake hose end from the brake system with a back up wrench by leaving the brake pipe fitting on the brake hose and plugging the brake pipe fitting opening so that the brake hose won't bend and compromise the brake pipe or bracket. Remove the brake hose retainer on the hose bracket, remove the brake hose from the bracket removing the brake caliper inlet fitting bolt from caliper and the last is removing the brake hose from caliper. To discard two copper brake hose gaskets, which may be stuck to the caliper or end of the hose. For assembly to go for new copper brake hose gaskets, fit it together with the brake caliper inlet fitting bolt to the brake hose, and install the same to the brake caliper while tightening the bolt to a torque of 45nm (33 ft. Lbs.). Next, hook up the brake hose to the hose bracket, so that it doesn't kink or twist, and plug the retainer onto the brake hose fitting at the bracket. Unplug or unbend the rubber cover or plug of the brake pipe fitting at the end of the brake pipe fitting and attach the brake hose fitting while using back up wrench and tighten it to 18 nm (13 ft. Lbs.) without bending the bracket or the pipe. The final step is to reinstall the tire and wheel assembly, bleed the hydraulic system of the brakes, and then lower the vehicle.
