2003 Chevrolet Malibu Rack and Pinion Boot Parts and Q&A

  • Q: How to replace the Rack and Pinion Boot on 2003 Chevrolet Malibu?
A: Begin Rack and Pinion Boot replacement by using the keystone clamp pliers (J 22610) to detach the outer tie rod and hex jam nut on the inner tie rod assembly. You should first detach the tie rod end clamp from the Rack and Pinion Boot by using side cutters to remove its boot clamp and throw away the old clamp. You must remove the Rack and Pinion Boot from the gear assembly. We first need to install a new boot clamp onto the Rack and Pinion Boot then apply grease to both the inner tie rod assembly and the Rack And Pinion gear assembly before placing the new Rack and Pinion Boot onto the inner tie rod assembly . The Rack and Pinion Boot must be free of any twist or puckering prior to installation. Before fitting into the gear assembly groove users must set the boot into its proper position by hand. Register the boot clamp using keystone clamp pliers (J 22610) to mount and crimp the clamp onto the Rack and Pinion Boot . To install the tie rod end clamp use pliers and close them while applying force to lock the hex jam nut into place on the inner tie rod assembly.
