  • Q: How to replace the oil pan on 2003 Chevrolet Impala?
    A: To replace the Oil Pan you should start by disconnecting the negative Battery Cable, then take off the Engine Mount struts. Mount the engine support fixture (J35368-B) and lift the vehicle. Remove the A/C Compressor and relocate it and catalytic converter pipe away from the right Exhaust Manifold. Drain the engine oil, remove the oil level sensor electrical connector, and remove the Starter motor. Next, take off the transaxle brace from the Oil Pan, loosen the transaxle mount lower nuts, remove the Engine Mount lower nuts before lowering the vehicle. Instead, be able to lift the engine using the engine support fixture (J35368-B), then be able to lift the vehicle again. Unfasten the steering shafts intermediate pinch bolt, and then the Engine Mount bracket along with the Engine Mount from the Oil Pan. The right side lower Ball Joint, right side outtie road, and the right stabilizer link. Put in jackstands to the frame assembly, take out the right-side frame bolts and release the left side frame bolts. Lower the right side of the frame assembly with the jackstands, then remove the right Oil Pan side bolts using the torque wrench adapter (J 39505), then the left Oil Pan side bolts and the Oil Pan nuts and give it a new gasket; remove the Oil Pan. Clean and check the Oil Pan and engine block gasket mating surfaces, and also apply sealant gm p/n 12345739 (Canadian P/N 10953541) at the rear main bearing cap and engine block. Set the Oil Pan Gasket and the Oil Pan by tightening the bolts to 25 nm (18 ft. Lbs. ). Install the right side Oil Pan bolts and torque to 50 nm (37 ft. Lbs.) and the left side Oil Pan bolts to 50 nm (37 ft. Lbs.) using the torque wrench adapter (J39505). Lift the frame assembly back to its previous condition with jackstands, install the right side and tighten the left side frame bolts and take off the jackstands. Install the right side stabilizer link; the right side outer tie rod to the Steering Knuckle, the right side lower Ball Joint to Steering Knuckle. Mount the Engine Mount bracket onto the Engine Mount and onto the Oil Pan along with the intermediate pinch bolt to the Steering Shaft. Lift the vehicle and place the engine support fixture (J35368-B) to bring down the engine to its normal position. Perform the following: lift the vehicle again, with the mount lower nuts to the transaxle brace and to the Oil Pan. Install the Starter motor, the electrical connector of the oil level sensor, and the catalytic converter pipe with the right Exhaust Manifold and then the A/C Compressor. Lastly, lower the vehicle, take off the engine support fixture (J35368-B), then the install the Engine Mount struts to the engine, top up the crankcase with new engine oil and reconnect the negative Battery Cable.
