2003 Chevrolet Express 3500 Power Steering Pump Parts and Q&A

  • Q: How to replace the power steering pump on 2003 Chevrolet Express 3500?
A: The Power Steering Pump replacement should start with placing a drain pan underneath the vehicle followed by removing the Power Steering Pump pulley. After partially draining the vehicle fluid you should disconnect the lower intermediate shaft from the power steering gear by removing both of its bolts. Perform these operations first by raising and supporting the vehicle and then removing the tire along with wheel. Through the wheel well disconnect the power steering reservoir outlet hose while sealing its end along with the power steering gear outlet hose and power brake booster inlet hose from the Power Steering Pump before capping the pump and hoses to block dirt entry. The vehicle must be lowered so the user can unbolt both rear and front Power Steering Pump mounts. Next, extract the Power Steering Pump from the vehicle before removing the rear bracket mounting nuts from the pump. Screw the rear bracket to the Power Steering Pump then fasten it with mounting nuts which should be tightened to 50 nm torque specifications (37 ft. Lbs.). The vehicle Power Steering Pump installation should be completed by securing the front mounting bolts to 50 nm (37 ft. Lbs.) and the rear mounting bolt to 41 nm (30 ft. Lbs.). After lifting the vehicle once more you should uncover power steering hoses while routing them precisely as they were positioned previously. Use a 33 nm torque to join the power brake booster inlet hose to the Power Steering Pump while installing the power steering gear outlet hose and reservoir outlet hose. First disconnect the tire along with its wheel followed by lowering the vehicle before connecting the lower intermediate shaft to the power steering gear and securing it with a retaining bolt torqued up to 61 nm (45 ft. Lbs.). End the process by reinstalling the Power Steering Pump pulley then bled the system and remove the drain pan beneath the vehicle.
