2003 Chevrolet Corvette Brake Pad Parts and Q&A

  • Q: How to replace the rear brake pads on 2003 Chevrolet Corvette?
A: Before working on the rear brake pads check the brake master cylinder reservoir fluid level. If it sits halfway between maximum and minimum mark you can proceed without draining fluid. First lift the car and place supports under it. Next take off the tire and wheel unit. Turn the wheel lug nut hand tight to attach the rotor to the hub properly. Fit the brake caliper between end points of the c-clamp then push it against an old Brake Pad or wood block near the caliper body until the piston slides past the rotor. Set the c-clamp aside and disconnect the brake caliper guide pin bolts. Soak up the brake caliper with mechanic's wire to shield the hydraulic flexible brake hose from harm and take out the caliper from its bracket without disconnecting the hose. Check the Brake Pad retainers by taking out the brake pads. Before installing check if the caliper slide boots need replacement because of damage. After compressing fully use the large c-clamp once more to push the caliper piston all the way back into its housing then remove both tools and parts. Put the brake pads and pad retainers into place assuring the wear sensor points to the back of the inboard pad as the front wheel rotates. Connect the brake caliper to the newly installed bracket before attaching and tightening its guide pin bolts to 31 nm (23 ft. Lbs.). Put back the tire and wheel assembly before lowering the vehicle. While the engine stays off apply brake pressure to 2/3rd of the Brake Pedal length followed by a slow release. However keep pressing the Brake Pedal for 15 seconds then repeat the process until you feel a solid brake reaction due to caliper piston and pad placement. Add fluid into the brake master cylinder reservoir while making sure it reaches the proper level then smooth out the pads and rotors.
