How to replace the upper ball joint on 2003 Chevrolet Avalanche 1500?

Your first step requires lifting the vehicle then taking off the tire and wheel. To disconnect the bracket remove bolt and nut then take out the bracket itself. You need to remove the bolt fixing the brake hose bracket to the axle. Apply j 44664 nut extractor to take off the upper Ball Joint nut that secures Steering Knuckle components. Unscrew the upper Ball Joint and its two retaining bolts and stud . Use the j 44663 tool to extract the upper Ball Joint stud from the Steering Knuckle and afterward take out the upper Ball Joint completely. Press the upper Ball Joint onto the Steering Knuckle and fasten it with both retaining bolts and stud which you should tighten to 110 n.m (81 lb ft). Screw the nut onto the Steering Knuckle with the help of j 44664 (J 44664) until you reach 200 n.m torque (147 lb ft torque). Press the bracket onto its final position over the Axle Shaft then connect the bolt and nut that support the bracket and torque them at 25 n.m. Secure the brake hose bracket bolt onto the axle at 12 n.m (106 lb in). Put the tire back on and lower the vehicle before having the wheels properly aligned.
