2002 GMC Savana 3500 Oxygen Sensor Parts and Q&A

  • Q: How to replace the Heated Oxygen Sensor (HO2S) Bank 1 Sensor 1 on 2002 GMC Savana 3500?
A: In order to replace the Heated Oxygen Sensor (HO2S) Bank 1 Sensor 1, you will need to lift up the vehicle first. Remove the HO2S connector and pull out the HO2S using the Oxygen Sensor Wrench (J 39194-B) and disconnect its connector. Before installation, also if necessary, coat the threads of the new oxygen sensor with the anti-seize compound GM PIN 5613695, because unique anti-seize compound (liquid graphite and glass beads) are used in the cementation of the HO2S for the purpose of ease of future removal. Add the HO2S using an Oxygen Sensor Wrench (J 39194-B) and tighten it to 42 N.m (31 lb."). Lastly, connect the HO2S harness connector and lower the vehicle.
