2002 Buick Rendezvous Brake Pad Parts and Q&A

  • Q: How to replace the front brake pads on 2002 Buick Rendezvous?
A: First check the brake master cylinder reservoir fluid level in the front Brake Pad job. Drain off excess fluid to reach the midpoint when the fluid sits between maximum and minimum specs. First raise the car and put supporting stands under it before taking off the tire and wheel. Lock the rotor in place with two wheel nuts. Place a c-clamp on top of the brake caliper and press against the back of the outboard Brake Pad until the brake caliper cylinder pushes the piston into the Brake Pad slot effectively. Turn over the brake caliper after you take out the lower bolt and you will see the brake pads to be removed along with their retainers. Use the c-clamp to press the Brake Caliper Piston into the bore by placing a wood piece or the old Brake Pad between them. Check brake caliper bolt boots and Brake Caliper Piston boot for damage while inspecting for leaks and deterioration. Replace these parts when necessary and examine the caliper bolts for rust before using new parts. Use denatured alcohol to clean the caliper boot before pushing the piston into position using a c-clamp and protection. Install the four pad retainers onto caliper bracket with the sensor directed toward frontal pad edges. Install brake pads first then place retainers over them. Secure the caliper bracket after cleaning threads and applying threadlocker gm p/n 12345493 (Canadian P/N 10953488) to brake caliper pin bolts. Situate the caliper onto pads and bolt the base with 35 nm torque setting (26 ft. Lbs. Force). Place the wheel on the hub using both wheel nuts and lower the vehicle. Fill the brake system to its required level as you pump the brake pedal fully down to achieve a solid press before finishing by doing pad and rotor finishing work.
