2002 Buick LeSabre Knock Sensor Parts and Q&A

  • Q: How to replace the Knock Sensor (KS) 2 on 2002 Buick LeSabre?
A: Vehicle technicians should start by turning off the Ignition Switch before lifting the car since they need to follow secure vehicle lifting principles. First remove splash shield bolts while maintaining safety from hot engine coolant which remains in the water jacket even though you drained the cooling system. Drain the cooling system before removing the two bolts from the Knock Sensor heat shield situated below the freeze plug or block heater area. First disconnect the electrical connection of the Knock Sensor then extract the sensor from its mounting position on the engine block. Installation should not include thread sealants on the sensor threads since factory coating requires its presence for successful detonation detection. Tighten the Knock Sensor inside the engine block with 19 n.m (14 lb ft) of torque. Screw in the Knock Sensor heat shield with a torque of 60 n.m (44 lb ft. Installation involves plugging the electrical connector to the Knock Sensor before installing the splash shield while lowering the vehicle for filling the cooling system and checking the coolant level.
