2001 GMC Safari Brake Booster Parts and Q&A

  • Q: How to replace the hydraulic brake booster on 2001 GMC Safari?
A: The first step to replace the hydraulic Brake Booster involves applying the park brake followed by putting a drain pan under the hydraulic Brake Booster and booster reservoir. You should disconnect the reservoir hose along with the power steering hoses from the booster yet maintain the brake pipes attached to the master cylinder. To safely remove the Pushrod from the Brake Pedal it is necessary to first support the master cylinder while disconnecting its nuts and then disconnecting the Pushrod. After removing hydraulic booster mounting nuts found inside the vehicle you can extract the booster assembly with the attached gasket. First apply the new gasket before putting in the booster assembly and finally tighten the mounting nuts to 36 nm (27 ft. Lbs.). First reinstall the Brake Pedal Pushrod while installing the master cylinder and fasten it using nuts which need to be tightened to 36 nm (27 ft. Lbs.). Install the power steering hoses on the booster before tightening the hose fittings up to 27 nm (20 ft. Lbs.), then connect the reservoir hose. The procedure ends by bleaching the hydraulic Brake Booster system along with releasing the parking brake.
