Start by analyzing the halfshaft sealing surface on the transmission for corrosion then use 320 grit cloth to clean any corrosion before proceeding. Cut through the swage ring utilizing a hand grinder instead of damaging the tripot housing. First detach the big seal retention clamp before you disconnect the inboard seal from its position beyond the trilobal tripot bushing and slide it away from the joint. Take the tripot joint spider and trilobal tripot bushing off the housing unit. Spread the spacer rings using snap ring pliers before extracting the spider assembly and finally removing spacer rings and inboard seal. Thoroughly clean the halfshaft bar while inspecting the spider assembly for damage or wear then replace any inspected damaged components. Put the new swage ring onto the joint seal before mounting it to the halfshaft bar. The assembly fits into the j41048 tool while users must check the seal for pinch points before alternately tightening the bolts. Use snap ring pliers to install the inboard seal alongside swage ring and spacer ring followed by spider assembly until all components reach complete seating. Apply grease to the inboard seal before housing repacking which precedes installation of the trilobal tripot bushing. Place the new seal retaining clamp on the seal before moving the housing across the spider assembly. First form the seal properly then position all elements between the seal and the large seal retaining clamp while aligning and latching. Use tool j35910 to crimp the seal retaining clamp while maintaining the specified torque setting and additionally inspect the clamp ear gap before any necessary adjustments.
