- Q: How to replace the Heated Oxygen Sensor (HO2S) 2 on 2001 Buick Century?A: Your replacement of the Heated Oxygen Sensor (HO2S) 2 should begin with turning off the ignition followed by lifting the vehicle into position. Disconnect the sensor electrical connector. A specific heat-resistant anti-seize compound made of graphite mix and glass beads is used for threaded oxygen sensor applications. After burning off the graphite material the glass beads inside the sensor will stay behind and simplify the removal process. Before reinstalling a sensor always apply anti-seize compound on the threads. Use a Heated Oxygen Sensor Socket (J 39194-B) to back out the heated oxygen sensor carefully. Installation of heated oxygen sensor/catalyst monitor calls for threading the sensor with anti-seize compound P/N 5613695 or its equivalent. Install the heated oxygen sensor into place with the Heated Oxygen Sensor Socket (J 39194-B) until torque reaches 42 N.m (31 lb ft). Reinstall the sensor electrical connector before performing the vehicle's descent.
