2001 Buick Century Evaporator Parts and Q&A

  • Q: How to replace the evaporator core on 2001 Buick Century?
A: The first step begins with HVAC module assembly removal then continuing to remove all outer seals of the HVAC module assembly before moving forward. The removal process starts with releasing the retaining clip that holds the defroster actuator. Afterward, detach the recirculation housing from the HVAC module assembly and remove the actuator. Detach the HVAC module assembly case by removing all upper screws. You should first remove the HVAC module assembly seal from the lower module case followed by extracting the evaporator core which contains the water core filter from the evaporator. To install begin by connecting the water core filter to the evaporator before applying new side and upper seals with two new lower seals for the evaporator core. The HVAC module assembly seal should be installed on the lower module case before inserting the evaporator core which must align with the guide prior to upper and lower case installation. Secure the upper screws of the HVAC module assembly and tighten them to 1.5 N.m (13 lb in). Attach the defroster actuator followed by the recirculation housing screws then replace the HVAC module assembly while tightness should be at 1.5 N.m (13 lb in) for screws.
