2000 GMC Jimmy Secondary Air Injection Pump Parts and Q&A

  • Q: How to service the Secondary Air Injection Pump on 2000 GMC Jimmy?
A: A proper service of the Air Injection Pump begins by raising the entire vehicle. The AIR shield and the AIR injection reactor pump hose removal process should be skipped during a 4WD maintenance procedure while 2WD vehicles can avoid removing the steering linkage shield and the AIR injection reactor pipe assembly. The first step requires the removal of all AIR shield mounting bolts followed by removal of the shield. The next step involves removing all retaining bolts from the steering linkage shield before removing the steering linkage shield. Sequence spring clamp release to separate the AIR injection reactor pipe assembly from the pump assembly while simultaneously using spring clamp release for the removal of the AIR injection reactor pump hose from the pump assembly. Detach electrical connectors linking the AIR pump to the solenoid before you start removing the AIR pump mounting bolts and pump itself. Mount the AIR pump bracket into the designated holes then install its mounting bolts tightly at 17 N.m (13 lb ft). Install the AIR injection reactor pump hose to the pump assembly using a hose clamp before attachment of the AIR injection reactor pipe assembly with another hose clamp. The installation of the AIR shield and steering linkage shield applies only to 2WD vehicles whereas both the AIR shield and the AIR injection reactor pump hose are excluded from 4WD vehicles. Attach the AIR shield to its correct position before tightening the mounting bolts to 33 N.m (24 lb ft). Install the steering linkage shield while aligning it and use bolts to mount the shield at 33 N.m (24 lb ft). Finally, lower the vehicle.
