2000 GMC Jimmy Brake Booster Parts and Q&A

  • Q: How to replace the vacuum brake booster on 2000 GMC Jimmy?
A: First set the parking brake and support the master cylinder when you remove it from the vacuum booster. Separate the vacuum hose from the vacuum booster before taking out the left closeout panel and insulator. Unfasten the Pushrod retainer from the brake pedal pin followed by unscrewing the stoplamp switch from its location and pulling off the Pushrod from the brake pedal pin. After removing the steering column support and vacuum booster mounting nuts you can uninstall the vacuum booster assembly including its gasket. Put the gasket and vacuum booster unit on its installation position and torque the vacuum booster mounting nuts to 40 nm (30 ft.lb) settings. Reattach the steering column support bracket then route the Pushrod to the brake pedal pin and fit the stoplamp switch back on its holder. Put the Pushrod retainer in place on the brake pedal pin then place the left side panel back while connecting the vacuum hose to the booster and installing the master cylinder.
