2000 GMC Jimmy Parking Brake Shoe Parts and Q&A

  • Q: How to service and repair the parking brake shoe on 2000 GMC Jimmy?
A: The servicing and repair of the Parking Brake Shoe starts by properly raising and sustaining the vehicle. First you should remove the wheel together with tire followed by taking off the caliper and rotor. Separate the park brake cable from the brake lever before moving the shoe assembly by the hold down spring to disengage it. Chop the shoe off from the actuation mechanism followed by cleaning all park brake components using a clean towel to remove any debris and dust. Adjust the turning screw until it hits the notched adjustment nut home position and afterwards, rotate it 1/4 turn away from this point to achieve parallel slots relative to the backing plate face. To install the park Brake Shoe attach the new unit to the inboard part of the actuator then snap it into position onto the spring. Check if the shoe assembly stands in the center of the backing plate so its tips rest in the slots before examining the park brake manually. The park brake lever receives reconnection with its cable while adjustments are done to the park Brake Shoe. Reinstallation of caliper along with rotor and tire and wheel occurs before the vehicle descends to ground level.
