2000 Chevrolet Monte Carlo Crankshaft Position Sensor Parts and Q&A

  • Q: How to replace the Crankshaft Position Sensor on 2000 Chevrolet Monte Carlo?
A: Start your crankshaft position (CKP) sensor replacement by verifying the vehicle's ignition is off. Gather the necessary tools: the tool set required for this work consists of the torque/angle meter (J 36660-A), flywheel holding tool (J 37096), and balancer remover (J 38197). Start by removing serpentine belt(s) from the Crankshaft Pulley before raising the vehicle and removing right front wheel with attached tire as well as the right inner fender access cover. Remove the crankshaft Harmonic Balancer and Crankshaft Position Sensor shield by hand without applying a pry bar. Begin by disconnecting the ckp sensor electric connector. Then detach its bolts before extracting the sensor from the engine block's surface. You need to install the ckp sensor on the block while adding the bolts which should get tightened to 20-40 n.m (14-28 lb ft). Reposition the crankshaft Harmonic Balancer while reinstalling the Crankshaft Position Sensor shield followed by wiring the electrical connector to the shield. Replace the right front wheel and tire assembly along with the right inner fender access cover by securing wheel nuts at 140 n.m (104 lb ft). After platform-lowering complete the serpentine belt replacement and execute the ckp system variation learn procedure.
