2000 Cadillac Catera Camshaft Parts and Q&A

  • Q: How to replace the right camshaft on 2000 Cadillac Catera?
A: The procedure for right Camshaft replacement starts by removing the intake plenum and intake air resonator followed by rh Camshaft cover then front Timing Belt cover along with Timing Belt. The counterclockwise Crankshaft rotation to 60 degrees btdc is necessary to avoid valve/piston collision before inserting the Camshaft gear locking tool (J 42069-1) for Camshaft gear bolt loosening. Disassemble the Camshaft gear locking tool (J 42069-1) followed by the Camshaft gear bolt together with the Camshaft gear as you avoid tension from lifters acting on the Camshaft. Remove the bearing caps in sequence while you unfasten their bolts followed by noting the code marks they bear. Detach the Camshaft along with its attached seal and separate it from the Camshaft Seal before cleaning all bearing surfaces. The installation requires gm p/n 1052367 or compatible lubricant for Camshaft bearing surfaces and both the intake Camshaft pin must face 11 o'clock and the exhaust Camshaft pin must face 1 o'clock position. Place the Camshaft inside the Cylinder Head while applying loctite(R) 573 or equivalent to the front bearing caps before properly installing these bearing caps in position. Insert the Camshaft/front main seal installer (J 35268-A) to install the Camshaft Seal after applying gm p/n 12377985 or equivalent to coat the seal lips and tightening the bolts that attach the bearing caps to 8 nm (71 inch lbs.). Use the Camshaft gear locking tool (J 42069-1) to clamp down the Camshaft gear during which you should develop 50 nm (37 ft. Lbs.) of torque by applying a 60-degree and 15-degree turn with torque/angle meter (J 36660-A). Without disturbing the Crankshaft at tdc position you must install the Timing Belt followed by front belt cover and right Camshaft cover along with intake plenum and air resonator.
