How to service and repair the Transmission Pan for the 4L60-E/4L65-E/4L70-E automatic transmission on GMC Savana 2500?

Start your fluid pan service or repair of the 4l60-e/4l65-e/4l70-e automatic transmission by supporting the vehicle and placing a drain pan underneath the transmission oil pan. The range selector cable bracket must be positioned to one side by removing its bolts if required prior to lowering the pan. This should occur without detaching the cable from the lever or bracket while the oil pan Drain Plug remains in place. Begin by taking out the Catalytic Converter but keep the oil pan bolts situated at the front portion of the pan and sides until you loosen the bolts located at the back by about 4 turns. A rubber mallet should be used to tap the oil pan lightly so fluid drains out before you can remove the remaining bolts and the oil pan together with its gasket. Use pliers to detach the filter seal from the pump only if the seal gets stuck before you can grasp the filter for proper rotation to remove both pieces. Then discard the seal. Check the fluid tone and filter state for signs of clutch material as well as analyze if it contains bronze flakes or steel chips. Solvent should be used for cleaning transmission case and oil pan gasket surfaces until all residue from the old gasket disappears. Apply automatic transmission fluid on the new filter seal before installing it into the transmission case while tapping it in position with an appropriate socket size. Next install the new filter using automatic transmission fluid for lubrication; afterward install the oil pan with its new gasket before tightening all bolts between 11 n.m (97 lb in) to 11 n.m (97 lb in). Secure the range selector cable bracket and Catalytic Converter through bolts which need 25 n.m (18 lb ft) torque. Use gm p/n 12346004 sealant on the threads of the oil pan Drain Plug when present before installing it at 18 n.m (13 lb ft). Lower the vehicle before filling the transmission with dexron(R) vi transmission fluid to the correct level while checking the cold fluid mark for the first time only. Perform an inspection for any oil pan gasket leaks afterward.

How to replace the transmission pan on GMC Sierra 1500?

The first step to change an Oil Pan requires increasing the vehicle height. Remove the Drain Plug and its Drain Plug seal from the Oil Pan so fluid can drain into a suitable contained while you record fluid amount loss since reusable fluid remains in good condition. The drainage process should begin with fluid inspection before removing 12 bolts where the Oil Pan remains fixed once the last bolt becomes loose. Remove the Oil Pan along with its gasket so you can check the magnet for big metallic pieces that would signal transmission failure. You should pull down the transmission internal oil filter to remove it from the suction tube in the transmission case but keep both filter and seal intact when handling only the Oil Pan or gasket replacement operation. After removing the transmission internal oil filter seal from its position either in the filter bore or the transmission case you must discard both elements when replacing anything. Remove all gasket residue from the transmission case while also fixing any damage which might result in leakage. Fitting a new seal onto the transmission internal oil filter tube's tube requires placing it against its shoulder before pushing filter and new seal into the transmission case's seal bore. Position 2 m8 x 1.25 headless guide bolts into the transmission case Oil Pan mounting face corners before placing a gasket over the pan and correctly setting the bolt holes. Set the gasket and Oil Pan over the guide bolts before keeping them steady to fasten 2 bolts . Guide bolts removal should be followed by tightening ten remaining Oil Pan bolts to 27 nm (20 ft. Lbs.). Insert the Drain Plug followed by its Drain Plug seal before tightening it to 35 nm (26 ft. Lbs.). Lower the vehicle while filling it with dexron(r)vi automatic transmission fluid which requires clean and approved fluid type only before inspecting the transmission fluid level since drained fluid remains in exterior circuits and transmission cavities.

A:
Start your fluid pan service or repair of the 4l60-e/4l65-e/4l70-e automatic transmission by supporting the vehicle and placing a drain pan underneath the transmission oil pan. The range selector cable bracket must be positioned to one side by removing its bolts if required prior to lowering the pan. This should occur without detaching the cable from the lever or bracket while the oil pan Drain Plug remains in place. Begin by taking out the Catalytic Converter but keep the oil pan bolts situated at the front portion of the pan and sides until you loosen the bolts located at the back by about 4 turns. A rubber mallet should be used to tap the oil pan lightly so fluid drains out before you can remove the remaining bolts and the oil pan together with its gasket. Use pliers to detach the filter seal from the pump only if the seal gets stuck before you can grasp the filter for proper rotation to remove both pieces. Then discard the seal. Check the fluid tone and filter state for signs of clutch material as well as analyze if it contains bronze flakes or steel chips. Solvent should be used for cleaning transmission case and oil pan gasket surfaces until all residue from the old gasket disappears.
