The Brake Booster is one of the important parts in GMC Terrain automobiles, as they help to decrease the required effort to apply the brakes. In the case of a booster, through the use of a vacuum chamber, it increases the hydraulic pressure from the master cylinder and enhances the efforts being made by the drivers to apply the brake. There are two basic categories of boosters, these are Vacuum operated and hydraulic boosters. In vacuum boosters, pressure difference between engine vacuum and atmospheric pressure is used and in hydraulic boosters pressure of the fluid is used for brake assistance. Traditionally, the vacuum power boosters are used in GMC Terrain vehicles, and although these are very reliable, they are prone to failure sometimes. Furthermore, one can also order performance brake boosters and power brake conversion packages for those who wish to give their vehicle's brakes a better setup.

GMC Terrain Brake Booster Parts and Q&A

  • Q: How to replace the power vacuum brake booster on GMC Terrain?
    A:
To start replacing the power vacuum Brake Booster you need to disconnect the vacuum Brake Booster sensor connections then set them to the side. First remove the master cylinders and then unfasten the brake pressure modulator valve (BPMV) unit in combination with its retaining bracket. Next you must take the brake pedal position sensor out. Unscrew the Pushrod retainer nut of the vacuum Brake Booster and detach the Pushrod at its brake pedal end. Pull the vacuum booster forward with four installed nuts while ensuring the mounting studs exit the dash panel to remove the foam insulator. Check the gasket for damage when you take out the vacuum Brake Booster and replace it if defective. To begin install you must put the vacuum Brake Booster gasket in place followed by correct installation of the foam insulator. Put the Brake Booster Pushrod and mounting studs through the dash panel in their installation path. Fasten the vacuum Brake Booster nuts to 25 nm (18 lb ft) and reconnect the brake pedal Pushrod using proper 360-degree installation of the Pushrod retainer. Seal the brake pedal position sensor with a 25 nm torque while mounting the bpmv bracket and bpmv to the engine bay. Reinsert the master cylinder then put back both the vacuum Brake Booster vacuum sensor and hose.
