Begin replacing the Catalytic Converter on a pickup 4.3l by putting on protective goggles and gloves first. Mount the vehicle at the proper height before beginning work. The transmission support should be removed according to necessity. First disconnect the electrical connections that lead to the lh, rh and post-converter heated Oxygen Sensor (H02S). Start by removing nuts from the Muffler to Catalytic Converter flange then remove the Muffler from the assembly. Start by unbolidng the flange nuts from the Exhaust Manifold and proceed to separate the Catalytic Converter from its rubber hanger and any present gaskets. You must remove heated oxygen sensors (H02S) only if needed. Install the heated Oxygen Sensor (H02S) as needed followed by the Catalytic Converter and new gaskets then complete the installation sequence. Position the Catalytic Converter onto the rubber hanger then use flange nuts to connect it to the Exhaust Manifold by torquing them to 53 nm (39 ft. Lbs.). Affix the Muffler to the Catalytic Converter along with a new gasket while tightening the flange nuts to a torque of 40 nm (30 ft. Lbs.). Connect the heated Oxygen Sensor (H02S) electrical wires with both rh and lh post-converter and rh and lh heated Oxygen Sensor components. Install the transmission support before lowering the vehicle to its original position.
