Q: How to replace the front door exterior door handle on GMC Sierra 3500?
A:
The first step to replace a front door exterior handle is to remove both the trim panel and water deflector. The first step includes disengaging the outside handle rod and the lock cylinder rod from the rod clips where they are installed. Secure the handle with masking tape before removing the outside handle mounting nuts and removing the rubber cover for access to the outboard nut until the Door Lock Cylinder can be taken out from the outside handle housing. The binding lock cylinder requires potential repairs according to need. Move to the installation of the new handle according to the vehicle specifications. A coating of gm p/n 12345120 or canadian p/n 726548 or equal lubricant should be applied on the inside of the lock case and cylinder keyway area before installing the Door Lock Cylinder into the outside handle housing. First secure the clip around the lock cylinder rod then join the handle rod to the assembly clip. After removing the tape from the Door Handle the outside mounting nuts need installation with a torque of 9 n.m (80 lb in). The last step includes the reinstallation of rubber cover, water deflector and the trim panel.
