How to replace the Engine Coolant Temperature Sensor on GMC Sierra 1500?

Draining the cooling system requires either the vac-n-fill method or the static fill method to change the engine Coolant Temperature Sensor. Disconnect the engine wiring harness electrical connector from the engine coolant temperature (ECT) sensor then remove the ect sensor from the Cylinder Head. During new sensor installation you must apply gm p/n 12346004 gm p/n 12346004 (Canadian P/N 10953480) sealant or equivalent material on the sensor threads before installation. Affix and torque tighten the ect sensor onto the Cylinder Head at 20 nm (15 lb ft). Sequence the final operation by connecting the engine wiring harness electrical connector to the ect sensor while using gm p/n 12346004 (Canadian P/N 10953480) sealant on the threads before filling the cooling system according to proper procedures.
