The first step to replace the left Exhaust Manifold on a 4.3l engine includes removing engine covers while disconnecting the engine coolant temperature (ECT) gauge sensor electrical connector. Disconnect the left front wheel tire first and then remove the left fender wheelhouse extension beneath it before continuing. You should first remove the
Catalytic Converter assembly together with the egr valve inlet pipe from the Exhaust Manifold and the
Spark Plug Wires from their
Spark Plugs alongside supporting bolts. Starting with the removal of Spark Plug wire support and its wires you can proceed to take out the spark plugs. The mechanic should first detach the air pipe from the Exhaust Manifold before removing the Exhaust Manifold, gaskets, spark plug wire shields along with Exhaust Manifold bolts from under the vehicle. All gasket surfaces need thorough cleaning during this process. During the installation process sub-assemble the new gaskets with the Spark Plug wire shields and Exhaust Manifold bolts to the surface while letting the Exhaust Manifold bolts rest on gasket tabs. After installing the Exhaust Manifold proceed to install spark plugs together with Spark Plug Wires. Attach the air pipe to the Exhaust Manifold after which add and secure the Spark Plug wire support using bolts at 12 nm (106 inch lbs.). Begin by installing the egr valve inlet pipe to the Exhaust Manifold while tightening the nut to 30 nm (22 ft. Lbs.) and then proceed with Catalytic Converter assembly assembly followed by fender wheelhouse extension and left front tire installation. Following the ect gauge sensor electrical connector reconnection, lower the vehicle and install the engine cover last.
