GMC Safari Canister Purge Valves Parts and Q&A

  • Q: How to replace the canister purge valves on GMC Safari?
    A:
One must start by taking out the engine cover and engine wiring harness bracket through the stud. First disconnect the evaporative emissions canister purge pipe together with the evap Canister Purge Valves harness connector. After removing the evap Canister Purge Valves nuts you must extract its valve from the Intake Manifold. Install the new evap Canister Purge Valves to the Intake Manifold and follow the fastener notice in service precautions for correct mounting. Fasten the valves in position by using mounting nuts which need to be tightened to 12 n.m (106 lb in). Reconnect the purge pipe with the evap Canister Purge Valves harness connector and reinstall the engine wiring harness bracket with a torque of 8 n.m (71 lb in). Place the engine cover into its original position as the last step.
  • Q: How to Service and Repair Canister Purge Valves on GMC Safari?
    A:
Before servicing and repairing the canister purge solenoid, you need to disconnect on the negative Battery Cable and remove the engine cover. Following this, demount the air inlet tube by unscrewing it with the wingnut and then further disconnect the evap purge line and purge solenoid electrical connector. Remove the purge solenoid mounting nuts and pull the purge out from Intake Manifold. For installation, mount the purge solenoid and fasten the mounting nuts with 12 n.m (9 lb ft) torque. Reconnect the purge solenoid electrical connector and the evap except air inlet tube. Reinstall it with wingnut. Lastly, install the engine cover and connect the negative Battery Cable.
