In replacing a Catalytic Converter on a 4.3l utility, one first has to ensure wearing protective goggles and gloves. Start by lifting and supporting the vehicle, followed by the opening of the transmission support. Remove the lh pre converter heated
Oxygen Sensor (HO2S) electrical connector, the rh pre converter heated Oxygen Sensor (HO2S) electrical connector, and the post converter heated Oxygen Sensor (HO2S) electrical connector. Then, unfasten the Catalytic Converter from the
Muffler by removing the Catalytic Converter to Muffler flange nuts. Go ahead and remove the Catalytic Converter to
Exhaust Manifold nuts and pull out the Catalytic Converter from the rubber Catalytic Converter hangers, including the gasket. If required, take out the heated Oxygen Sensor (HO2S). For installation, you should begin with the installation of the heated oxygen sensors (HO2S) if necessary, then the new gasket and Catalytic Converter back into the vehicle. Secure the rubber hangers to the Catalytic Converter and mount the Catalytic Converter to the Exhaust Manifold flange nuts by tightening them to 53 nm (39 ft. Lbs.). Next, put a new gasket and connect the Catalytic Converter to the Muffler ensuring the Muffler flange nuts are tightened up to 40 nm (30 ft. Lbs.). Reconnect the post converter heated Oxygen Sensor (HO2S) electrical connector, the rh pre converter heated Oxygen Sensor (HO2S) electrical connector and the lh pre converter heated Oxygen Sensor (HO2S) electrical connector. Finally install the transmission support and bring the vehicle into the lowered position.
