  To perform automatic transmission fluid replacement together with the filter you must first raise your vehicle then place a drain pan beneath the transmission Oil Pan. First detach the Oil Pan Drain Plug if provided but secure the range selector cable bracket to the side by unbolted bolts for pan lowering clearance without separating the cable. First detach front and side Oil Pan bolts and maintain the rear bolts with loose 4 turns before using a rubber mallet to drain fluid from the pan. Draining is complete when you take out all Oil Pan bolts followed by removing the Oil Pan with its gasket. Before inserting the new filter seal into the transmission case apply automatic transmission fluid onto it and use a suitable socket to tap it securely into position. Install the new filter first and then add the Oil Pan along with the new gasket before tightening all transmission case bolts to 11 nm (97 inch lbs.) in an alternate and balanced fashion. Place the range selector cable bracket back into position then fasten its bolts to 25 nm (18 ft. Lbs.). Install a small amount of sealant gm p/n 12346004 onto the oil Drain Plug threads when equipped before tightly attaching it with 18 nm (13 ft lbs). The transmission requires dexron iii fluid at proper levels which needs cold level checking only for the first fill-up before inspecting the Oil Pan gasket for possible leaks.
